Using the 12-lead H12+ Holter ECG

The 12-lead Holter ECG recorder (H12+), originally developed by Mortara Instrument and now part of Baxter’s ECG device portfolio, is a compact, ambulatory electrocardiographic monitoring system designed for continuous, high-fidelity ECG recording over extended periods (typically 24 to 48 hours). Unlike standard 3-lead Holter systems, the H12+ captures full 12-lead ECG waveforms, enabling more comprehensive cardiac assessments, particularly for detecting transient or asymptomatic arrhythmias, ST segment changes, and complex conduction abnormalities.

The device is engineered for comfort, accuracy, and reliability in both clinical and research settings. It supports digital data storage and integrates seamlessly with analysis software for efficient ECG review and annotation. As a trusted tool in cardiology, the H12+ contributes significantly to diagnostic accuracy and is widely used in clinical trials and routine patient care.

M5 Patch recorder: unboxing, skin preparation and electrode placement

The Global Instrumentation ECG Patch System is a lightweight, wearable device designed for long-term, single-lead ECG monitoring, offering up to 14 days of continuous high-resolution signal recording.

  1. Each study site receives equipment box(es) from the ECG core lab.

  2. The box includes the M5 recorder manual to guide users through proper operation.

  3. A patient instruction guide is provided to ensure patients understand the device and its use.

  4. Inside the box is the M5 ECG recorder, used for capturing long-term ECG data.

  5. A charging cable with adapter is included to power the device as needed.

  6. Prep equipment is provided, including supplies for skin preparation to ensure proper electrode contact and recording quality.

  7. After placing the device and completing setup, users must press the button on the M5 recorder to start the recording.

  8. Proper skin prep and button activation are both essential steps to ensure the device records accurately and reliably.

⚠️ Important Notice: Device Charging Requirement

Before initiating any study recording, please ensure that the M5 ECG recorder is fully charged.

Starting a session with a partially charged device may result in incomplete data capture or interrupted recordings, compromising data quality and subject safety.

Initialization of the M5 Recorder

Initialization steps of the M5 recorder using the M12A software, including subject ID entry, device configuration. Connecting the M5 recorder to your laptop and process to upload the ECG data prior to re-intialization for the next enrolled patient.

  1. The video demonstrates how to initialize the M5 Holter ECG recorder before patient use.

  2. Begin by connecting the M5 device to a computer using the supplied USB cable.

  3. Launch the software and click the “initialization” button to begin setup.

  4. Enter the subject’s identification data when prompted, linking the device to the correct patient.

  5. The device’s serial number appears on-screen and can be verified against the label on the back of the unit.

  6. To confirm functionality, press the “flash” button on the device — it should emit blue flashes if working correctly.

  7. After confirmation, click the “next” button to proceed through the remaining setup steps.

  8. The device is typically pre-configured to record for 7 or 14days with standard settings.

  9. Continue following prompts until the “finish” button appears.

  10. Click “finish” to complete initialization — the device is now ready for deployment.

Upon return of the M5 recorder from a subject, the data upload process begins by:

1. connecting the device to a computer using the provided USB cable.

2. The software M12A must be launched, and user credentials entered to access the data management system.

3. Once logged in and the relevant study is selected.

4. Users navigate to the bottom right corner of the interface and click the blue heart icon to initiate the upload module. From this screen, the upload process is launched by selecting the correct recorder and confirming the upload command.

The system automatically transfers all recorded data and confirms once the upload is complete. Ensuring the upload completes successfully is critical for preserving data integrity and ensuring the availability of ECG data for downstream analysis.
